Exploration in Ceramics

Before becoming an art student at MSU, I had never worked with clay or even considered the possibility of making ceramic art or pottery. I never knew anyone that did it and had absolutely zero knowledge of the process. Little did I know, I’d find a whole new world of art after taking a beginner ceramics class. I became very interested in the more nuanced aspects of the craft. Specifically, wood fired pottery. Using the flame in the kiln as a medium of creation inspires me in a way that I had never experienced before. Creating in a three dimensional medium is very fun and quite challenging. Here are a few photos of a small portion of objects I made while in Josh Deweese’ Intermediate Ceramics class.
